My wide 3-ring binders don't fit as well in the VERY back due to the wheel wells, but they fit fine if they're in front of another standard-size text. I measured, and the very back two inches of the backpack have about 10.5" between the wheel wells, but farther forward through the rest of the space can accommodate up to 14". I can carry two thick texts and two binders in the main compartment with a lot of space above them (in rolling position) to store a packed lunch.
My 17" Lenovo laptop fits great in the laptop compartment along with its bulky power cord, a day planner, and a box of granola bars in case I get stranded on campus without a lunch. (cafeteria food is so expensive!)
The little top zippered compartment fits my reading glasses in a hard case and my lab safety glasses/goggles nicely. The lower outside zippered compartment holds my clutch (aka a zippered wallet, for the guys), my cell phone, my keys, and a 5-star zippered pouch with pens, pencils, protractor, etc. The two side pouches are very roomy, but can encroach on the larger compartment space inside if you jam them full. I can fit a change purse and my 16oz water bottle into one of these completely and zip it closed when the main compartment is full.
None of the zippers get hung up or have broken in the six months I have used it. My parking space is a half mile from my class building; I've dragged this bag behind me back and forth from my car to class every day, sometimes twice a day, M-F all through the spring semester and the wheels are still rolling smoothly. I have dragged it through shallow snow/slush/salt during those trips - the interior stayed dry and the exterior has not become damaged. I've only ventured to roll it through the pouring rain a couple of times, but from those experiences I can say that everything inside the bag stayed dry.
I will say that the bag is not very comfortable to carry on my back for very long. It's extremely useful to have those straps for between classes when the hallways are jammed with people, or during the winter when I don't want to drag it through a foot of snow, but the bars of the rolling handle and the wheels both dig into my back after a while... It probably would not be so uncomfortable if I didn't have SO much heavy stuff packed into it. The straps are easy to get out and put away - I leave the very top of the strap compartment unzipped all the time so I can easily open one side and slide out a single shoulder strap to use on stairways and crowded hallways.
Oh, and the top handle is holding up great as well - I use it over and over to haul the bag into and out of my car, up curbs, short sets of stairs, etc, and NONE of the stitching is coming undone or stretching. And I really think that's saying a lot, because I just weighed it "full" with my standard gear listed above and it weighs 45lbs!
Overall, I love this bag and I'm incredibly satisfied with my purchase. I hope it continues to stand up to the demands I put on it for the next four years as well!
UPDATE: After three years of rugged use and banging it down stairs and off curbs behind me, the wheel axle became bent and the wheels started to become off-kilter and squeaky. The bag remained every bit as durable otherwise, but everyone could hear me coming a mile away! Instead of contacting the company for repair/replacement, we just purchased another - the same make and model - and the new one has lived up to its predecessor.
The material is tough and water resistant. We've gone through some storms with this thing, and nothing inside gets wet. The compartments are roomy and easy to access. There is plenty of space for everything and the kitchen sink.
There seems to be enough clearance between the wheels and the bottom of the backpack to prevent dragging of the bottom on the ground. The side pockets are deep, and both zip. You could stick a bottle of water in there without zipping, and it won't fall out.
There is a carrying handle, but this backpack mostly got lifted by the telescoping handle. I'm shocked that the handle made it through the year and still works well. I wouldn't bother opening the back to get the backpack straps out; the bag is heavy even when empty. It rolls smoothly; why wouldn't you roll it?
I paid full price for this backpack, and bought another one a year later. My daughter's backpack held up even better than my son's did. See the video!
All told, a great purchase.
Unfortunately the wheels and handle add about two inches extra in length. Once the handle is retracted it still sticks out about a half to one inch; incidentally, it has a zippered covering. And the wheels also stick out about a half to one inch from the bottom. The wheels however are set within the bag's width. Anyway, it doesn't fit under the seat in front for most planes. I was really hoping it would cuz I use my bags for foot rests (I'm short, remember). It did fit under the first class seat on one of the planes I flew, but not on another.
Overall, I'm pretty pleased with it. It seems well-constructed, sturdy, and light-weight, with practically designed pockets for organizing.

Reviewed in India on March 23, 2018
It could definitely be improved by a mesh water bottle pocket. I end up having to put my water bottle in the main compartment with my textbooks. The side pockets are far too small (and already full besides).
Another issue is that the handle sticks when moving it up and down, increasingly noticeable even though I've had it for only three weeks.
The wheels definitely save your back. When not in use, the shoulder straps can be zipped up.
Cons:
1) Weight
2) No water bottle pocket
3) Handle sticks
Pros:
1) Roomy
2) Sturdy
3) Rolls easily
